Shimmy Mob, a "Flash Mob" type event, the largest event of its kind by the number of geographical territory covered in one day and raising funds for Women’s and Children’s shelters in participating communities. I will have info on just WHICH SHELTER we will be donating our funds to very soon!

I have volunteered to be a team leader for the city of Lexington, and we will have organized practice sessions in Lexington, Versailles, and Frankfort for anyone who is part of the Mob! The final MOB will be held in Lexington on May 12th!

Lose yourself in the swirling of silk veils, the jingle of kuchi coins and bells, and the hypnotic movements of dancers performing one of the world’s most ancient art forms.

Georgetown Kite Festival

Safiya and Troupe Hala Alimah will be taking Center Stage, accompanied by Tree of Life World Music, at this annual festival in Georgetown, Ky. April 17th, 2011, from 1-2pm. Event details can be found on Safiya's Facebook page, or on the Events Page Calendar.

Announcing Safiya's newest location for classes in Versailles,Ky

Come out and visit Safiya at 135 Lexington Rd. Versailles, Ky. (Next to the pool room) at her third and newest studio location during our Open House on March 27th, 2011. From 3-5 p.m. Classes at this newest location begin April 11th and are every Monday 5-6:30pm.

The Next Mini-Intensive Workshop Series starts March 22nd
'Focus Point' Vintage Oriental

Safiya will be teaching an Advanced Level Belly Dance Choreography in the 'Vintage American Oriental' style. The class will include dramatic entrance and exit from stage, veil, Beledi, floor-work, and drum solo. Correct costuming, hair and makeup will also be covered briefly to help students be able to present the 'full package' when performing this style of bellydance.

This will be a fast paced workshop, geared towards intermediate to advanced dancers. Experience with belly dance isolations and layering of multiple levels is recommended. Choreography notes will be provided.

A certificate of completion will be given to every student who attends all four days.

The workshop will be 4 Tuesdays in a row; March 22, 29, and April 5, 12!

Learn all the basic movements and steps that will help you build a strong foundation for your dance repertoire. Class space is limited, so make sure to register as early as possible.

1/8/2011 Free Belly Dance Class Was a Great Success

Fun was had by all as over 20 new students learned to shimmy and pop at Safiya's first Saturday class of the new year, proper posture, body awareness and healthy stretching were intermingled with laughter and smiles.  A small portion of a new Balady Choreography was taught, and some of Safiya's Intermediate students did a demonstration of an Oriental Fusion Safiya taught last year.
This was a wonderful start to the New Year and Safiya believes it is only the beginning of big and new things in the greater Lexington area's Belly Dance community.

Forming the Lexington Branch of Troupe Hala Alimah 

Troupe Hala Alimah was formed in 2007 in Central Florida, and performed traditional Raqs Sharqi as well as ATS Fusion and Theatrical Belly Dance throughout the Sunshine State.

Now Safiya will be forming a new branch of the troupe following her relocation to the Lexington Kentucky area.

Keep your eyes open for future appearances at local shows and community events throughout the Bluegrass area and beyond.

Traditional Belly Dance comes to Lexington Kentucky

Safiya Nawaar, Belly Dance Teacher, Choreographer, and Performer, has recently begun Belly Dance Classes in the Greater Lexington Area after relocating from Central Florida. Her Teaching methods have given birth to many wonderful dancers in her previous location, and now she brings her love of Middle Eastern Dance to Kentucky.
